An ongoing dissection of the strip mall

Artist Statment
Landmarking: An Ongoing Dissection of the Strip Mall is part of an ongoing investigation into my complex feelings toward the many strip malls I pass while driving anywhere in Houston, TX, spanning from spiteful frustration to empathetic dread. This barometer for American consumerism, capitalism, and communities is explored through six separate works presented as steps in a non-scientific process of the strip mall. Each work is a preliminary way to approach the strip mall as an abstract concept so I can continue to deconstruct my feelings as I add to this body of work.
